Connect directly with our partner farmers in Costa Rica and source exclusive coffees. Join us on our mission of creating a more sustainable coffee industry. Direct trade doesn't get more direct than this!

FROM OUR HANDS TO YOUR CUP
Grounds Costa Rica is a boutique importer of specialty coffee in Europe. We believe in a new, better way of sourcing specialty coffee. We aid farmers and roasters in their trade journey and foster direct trade relationships.
WE BELIEVE the specialty market deserves more transparency and collaboration while at the same time prioritising quality.
The Challenge?
Given the smaller scale of specialty coffee businesses and their purchase amounts, its pretty much impossible to manage an own import and logistics. While at the same time, it is specialty coffee professionals who pay more attention to sourcing with outermost care, prioritising the quality and traceability of their supply chain.
Our solution?
We created a Community-Based Coffee import called #jointheboat. We make direct trade possible by facilitating the logistics and where a group of roasters share a shipping container.
We shorten the supply chain by eliminating any unnecessary middlemen, while at the same time involving the farmer on the trade side and the roaster on the production side of the chain.
Our partnership with our partner producers aids them in their goal of continued coffee excellence, while also encouraging opportunities to expand their farms, technology, businesses and knowledge in a rapidly changing international market.
It is our main mission to help farmers and their families by raising the bar and lead them on their journey to conquer the international market. We work hand in hand by building a bridge between the producer and international roasters, and foster long- lasting trade relationships.

Two coffee regions
The two most famous coffee regions in Costa Rica where most Cup of Excellence winners come from.
WEST VALLEY
Accounts for nearly a quarter of Costa Rica’s total coffee production. The West Valley is home to several microclimates and subregions. It is an area of fertile lands of volcanic origin which gives special characteristics to the coffee, optimal acidity-body balance, aroma and an identity of origin.
In the cup, one can usually discover tastes of chocolate and honey, all the way down to the elegant complexity of flowers and fruits like mandarin, apricot and even tropical fruits like papaya and pineapple.
LOS SANTOS
Costa Rica’s largest and most famous coffee region is nestled within the country’s inner mountains and accounts for nearly 35% of the total production.
Los Santos region, with a high altitude, is right beside the renown 'denomination of origin' region of Tarrazú. It grows refined coffee with nuanced aromas and equally complex, rich flavor profiles of dried fruit, vanilla, and chocolate.
